Why do muscles seem to feel tighter from the age of 40?
- oestrogen directly affects the structure and function of bone, muscle, tendon and ligaments.
- hormonal changes of menopause, where there is a reduction in oestrogen, has a significant impact on musculoskeletal function.
- Women in midlife can also experience elevated cortisol levels which can tighten muscles.
Tight hamstrings are common in midlife, and dynamic mobility exercises can help.
Another nice way to encourage length through those hammies is lying with the back of the legs against a wall for 5/10 mins, this also off loads the pelvic floor muscles 💕.
As you can see at the end of a busy teaching day doing I like to do just that , in my swish new super comfy leopard print leggings from Amazing Jane Activewear ❤️❤️
